Itinerary: Belmonte | Sortelha | Sabugal | Castelo Novo
This two-day tour of the Historic Villages of Beira Baixa II offers an authentic immersion in the history and culture of this region. With the support of a local guide, visitors will have the opportunity to explore three of the most emblematic villages: Belmonte, birthplace of Pedro Álvares Cabral and with a rich Jewish heritage; Sortelha, one of the best-preserved medieval villages in the country, surrounded by walls and stone houses; and Castelo Novo, located at the foot of the Serra da Gardunha mountain range, known for its charming architecture and breathtaking landscapes. This tour is a true journey into the past, full of beauty and tradition.
PROGRAM:
Day 1: Belmonte | Sortelha
Morning: Journey from the starting points. Lunch at a local restaurant in Belmonte.
Afternoon: Visit Belmonte, famous for being the birthplace of Pedro Álvares Cabral, on a route that includes Belmonte Castle and its rich Jewish heritage, Synagogue and Jewish Museum . Next, visit the Museum of Discoveries , which offers an immersive experience about maritime voyages and the expansion of the Portuguese Empire. Continue to the village of Sortelha to visit its Castle and Pillory , linked to stories of knights, kings and battles that shaped the History of Portugal.
It will include: Dinner and hotel accommodation.
Day 2: Sabugal | Castelo Novo
Morning: Visit to the Centum Cellas Tower , a building shrouded in mystery whose ruins have given rise to various theories and legends. In Sabugal , visit the emblematic Castle of the Five Corners . Time to enjoy its privileged location on the banks of the Côa River. Continue to Castelo Novo . Visit the Castle , a medieval construction that offers breathtaking views of the Serra and the surrounding landscape. Route passing by the Church of Our Lady of Grace , the Manueline Pillory and the Village Fountain , a Renaissance fountain that exemplifies the importance of water in the history of the village. Lunch at a local restaurant.
Afternoon: Return to the places of origin.

Feel comfortable with several days of visits and an itinerary that alternates bus journeys and short walks in the places visited.
Be able to accompany a group at an average walking pace on sometimes uneven ground and with occasional stairs.
Being able to follow a medium-paced programme, which may involve getting up early on several days and only arriving at the hotel at the end of the day for dinner and a rest.
Feel comfortable accompanying a guide and respect all the instructions given.
Tolerate some temperature changes and unstable weather.
