PROGRAM
Departure from their places of origin to Avis, a picturesque village in the Alentejo region. Avis is the village where the ancient and powerful Military Order of Avis was born, and whose memory it safeguards to this day.
Our tour begins with a visit to the Castle. While exploring the village, you will find three of its six original towers: the Queen's Tower, the Saint Anthony's Tower, and the Saint Roch's Tower, as well as some sections of the medieval wall that blend in with the village houses.
Next, a visit to the old Convent of São Bento de Avis, commissioned in the first half of the 13th century on land donated by King Afonso II to the Militia of the Friars of Évora (future Order of Avis). The convent complex consists of the church, around which were built the old cloister, the cistern, the chapter house, the reading room, the refectory, the dormitory, and the Masters' Palace. The building remains unfinished, its construction never having been completed.
Continuing the visit to the Interpretive Center of the Order of Avis, which recounts nine centuries of history, from the founding of the convent in the 13th century to the development of the town over time and how the Order of Avis functioned.
Lunch at a local restaurant.
In the afternoon, we'll visit the Maranhão Dam, one of the most pleasant places in Alto Alentejo, covering approximately two thousand hectares. The tour includes a visit to the viewpoint and the reservoir, where we'll have free time to enjoy the wonderful scenery.
Returning to my place of origin.
