Heart of Portugal invites you on a journey through the interior and coastline of the central region. From cliffs and beaches to medieval towns, the route offers must-visit stops in coastal locations and majestic buildings that reveal the country’s past. The spiritual touch and bucolic scenery complete the experience, blending nature, tradition, and faith, offering an authentic immersion in the soul of Portugal.
PROGRAMME:
Day 1: Peniche | Óbidos | Caldas da Rainha
Morning: Journey from the starting locations. Discovery of the coastal area of Peniche, with a stop at Baleal Beach. Lunch at a local restaurant.
Afternoon: Visit to Óbidos, including a guided tour of the medieval town. Continue to Caldas da Rainha, with a walking tour of the city, including the Bordallo Pinheiro Route and the José Malhoa Museum. Free time at the D. Carlos I Gardens.
Evening: Dinner and accommodation.
Day 2: Nazaré | Alcobaça | Tomar
Morning: Heading to Nazaré, seaside walk and funicular ride to Sítio. Visit to the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Nazaré and the Ermida da Memória. Continue with a guided tour of the Alcobaça Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the most impressive Cistercian monasteries in Portugal.
Afternoon: Visit to Tomar, a Templar city, including the Convent of Christ, the Tomar Castle, and the Church of Santa Maria do Olival. Stroll along the Nabão River.
Evening: Dinner and accommodation at a hotel.
Day 3: Batalha | Aire and Candeeiros Mountains | Fátima
Morning: Guided tour of the Batalha Monastery, one of the largest examples of Gothic architecture in Portugal. Panoramic drive through the Natural Park of Aire and Candeeiros Mountains. Lunch at a local restaurant.
Afternoon: Visit to the Mira d'Aire Caves, followed by a visit to the Porto de Mós Castle, a medieval fortress with stunning views. Visit to the Sanctuary of Fátima, one of the largest Catholic pilgrimage sites.
Evening: Dinner and accommodation at a hotel.
Day 4: Almourol | Dornes | Castelo de Bode
Morning: Boat trip from Vila Nova da Barquinha, sailing along the Tagus River to the imposing Almourol Castle. Continue to Dornes, a picturesque Templar village, where the Pentagonal Tower, an important historical landmark, stands out.
Afternoon: Stop at Castelo de Bode, to enjoy the tranquility of the Blue Lake, ideal for relaxing and appreciating the natural landscape of the region. Return to the starting locations.

Seats on the bus are pre-allocated in order of where you get on the bus and date of deposit payment.

To take part in this route, you should:
Feel comfortable with several days of visits and an itinerary that alternates bus journeys and short walks in the places visited.
Be able to accompany a group at an average walking pace on sometimes uneven ground and with occasional stairs.
Being able to follow a medium-paced programme, which may involve getting up early on several days and only arriving at the hotel at the end of the day for dinner and a rest.
Feel comfortable accompanying a guide and respect all the instructions given.
Tolerate some temperature changes and unstable weather.
