Coruche
Itinerary: Church of Our Lady of the Castle | Church of Mercy | Sorraia River Beach | Coruche Rural Center – Center for Arts, Crafts and Traditional Knowledge (NRC-CAOST) | Cork Oak and Cork Observatory
Come visit Coruche, a destination that is not easily obvious but, perhaps for that reason, so surprising. Coruche leaves no one indifferent with the beauty of its landscapes, its history linked to the founding of Portugal, and its unique culture, a transition between Ribatejo and Alto Alentejo. A visit to places like the Parish Church and the Old Pillory provides an immersion into the cultural roots of the region. Furthermore, the natural richness that embraces Coruche, with its vast green areas and the Sorraia River, enriches the journey with landscapes that inspire serenity and natural beauty.

PROGRAM
Departure from the places of origin to Coruche . Located in the floodplain, in a transition zone between Ribatejo and Alentejo, the town of Coruche is a picturesque and tranquil location, with low, white houses of vernacular architecture that stretch across the plain next to the Sorraia River.
The tour begins with a visit to the Church of Our Lady of the Castle , situated on a hill overlooking the town of Coruche, with a breathtaking view over the floodplains and the Sorraia River. According to tradition, the church was founded by King Afonso Henriques, and a portrait of the first king is preserved within its walls.
Descend to the historic center of the village via Travessa do Castelo to visit the Church of Mercy , highlighting the pipe organ and the choir stalls, which were added when it served as the parish church.
Route to the riverside area for a stroll along the river and lunch at the Pátio Sorraia restaurant.
In the afternoon, a journey to the Sorraia River Beach , passing by the Coruche Bullring, an inseparable symbol of Ribatejo culture. Following this, a guided tour of the Coruche Rural Centre to visit the exhibition "Coruche: The Sky, the Earth and the People," which tells the story of Coruche from ancient times, based on the concept of the sacred and the relationship between Man and the divine, as experienced by the people of this region. Afterwards, a guided tour of the Cork Oak and Cork Observatory , highlighting the laboratories and workshops dedicated to the study of the cork oak/cork binomial.
Returning to my place of origin.
