Itinerary: Vila Nova Milfontes | Porto Covo | Sines | Melides
This 2-day itinerary along the Alentejan Coast invites visitors to explore the wild and authentic beauty of this region of Portugal. The journey begins in Porto Covo, a picturesque fishing village known for its crystal-clear beaches and hidden coves. We then head to Sines, the birthplace of Vasco da Gama, where maritime history intertwines with the charm of its streets and the grandeur of the castle overlooking the Atlantic. Finally, a visit to Melides unveils a quieter, more rural side of the coast, with its vast beaches and natural landscapes that invite relaxation. A perfect blend of sea, history, and nature.
PROGRAM:
Day 1: Vila Nova de Milfontes | Porto Covo
Morning: Departure from the original locations towards Vila Nova de Milfontes, a small fishing village where the Mira River meets the ocean. Riverside walk to enjoy the stunning Atlantic view. Lunch at a local restaurant.
Afternoon: Visit to Porto Covo, a charming fishing village offering a serene and preserved environment, characterized by its laid-back pace and untouched natural landscape. Tour the historic center and stroll along the Porto Covo coastline, stopping at viewpoints and beaches, such as the famous Praia da Samoqueira and Pessegueiro Island. Visit Porto Covo Bay.
Evening: Dinner and accommodation in a hotel.
Day 2: Sines | Melides
Morning: Visit to Sines, a city rich in history and maritime heritage. Known as the birthplace of Vasco da Gama, the famous Portuguese navigator, Sines boasts remarkable cultural heritage and a charming atmosphere. Visit to the Castle and a riverside walk at Vasco da Gama Beach. Continue to Melides, captivating with its vast stretches of golden sands and pristine beauty. Visit the village, the Lagoon, and Melides Beach. Lunch at a local restaurant.
Afternoon: Free time at Melides Beach. At the end of the day, return to the original locations.

To take part in this route, you should:
Feel comfortable with several days of visits and an itinerary that alternates bus journeys and short walks in the places visited.
Be able to accompany a group at an average walking pace on sometimes uneven ground and with occasional stairs.
Being able to follow a medium-paced programme, which may involve getting up early on several days and only arriving at the hotel at the end of the day for dinner and a rest.
Feel comfortable accompanying a guide and respect all the instructions given.
Tolerate some temperature changes and unstable weather.
