This route takes us on a journey through the Sabor Lakes, exploring the particularities of this territory, with special emphasis on visiting places of worship on the Fresco Mural Painting Route. Starting in Torre de Moncorvo, with its unusual Basilica, and passing through Freixo de Espada à Cinta and its magnificent Mother Church, the viewpoint of S. Antão da Barca, and Podence, the birthplace of the irreverent Caretos, this route surprises with its combination of spirituality and stunning landscapes.
PROGRAM:
Day 1: Torre de Moncorvo | Freixo de Espada à Cinta
Morning: Departure from the origin cities by private transport towards Torre de Moncorvo. Lunch at a typical restaurant in the region.
Afternoon: Stroll through the historic center of Torre de Moncorvo, highlighting the old Jewish quarter, Castle, and Basilica. Visit the Sacred Art Museum and the Iron Museum. Scenic drive to the S. Gregório viewpoint and the Sabor Valley, with breathtaking views over the lakes.
Evening: Arrival at Freixo de Espada à Cinta. Dinner and accommodation at a hotel.
Day 2: Freixo de Espada à Cinta | Mogadouro | Alfândega da Fé
Morning: Visit the historic center of Freixo de Espada à Cinta, with stops at the castle, main church, and Freixo Duarte d'Armas. In Mogadouro, visit the Castle, Convent, Church of São Francisco, and the Archaeology Museum room. Lunch in the region.
Afternoon: Visit the frescoes of the Church of N. Sra. da Encarnação in Valverde and the Chapel of Divino Senhor dos Milagres in Sendim da Ribeira. Proceed to the Fragas do Sabor and visit the Sanctuary of Sto. Antão da Barca.
Evening: Dinner and accommodation at a hotel.
Day 3: Podence | Albufeira do Azibo | Vila Flor
Morning: Visit the village of Podence and the Casa do Careto. Proceed to Albufeira do Azibo and the Foz do Azibo, where the Azibo River meets the Sabor River. Lunch in the region.
Afternoon: Climb to the Sanctuary of N. Sra. da Assunção. Stroll through the historic center of Vila Flor, visiting the Municipal Museum Dr. Berta Cabral, Main Church, Roman Fountain, and the Arch of D. Dinis.
Evening: Dinner and accommodation at a hotel.
Day 4: Foz do Sabor
Morning: Journey to Foz do Sabor, a place of natural beauty, ideal for a morning walk and moments of contemplation. Continue the visit to the frescoes of the Chapel of N. Sra. da Teixeira. Lunch in the region.
Afternoon: Return to the origin cities.

Feel comfortable with several days of visits and an itinerary that alternates bus journeys and short walks in the places visited.
Be able to accompany a group at an average walking pace on sometimes uneven ground and with occasional stairs.
Being able to follow a medium-paced programme, which may involve getting up early on several days and only arriving at the hotel at the end of the day for dinner and a rest.
Feel comfortable accompanying a guide and respect all the instructions given.
Tolerate some temperature changes and unstable weather.
