Itinerary: Santo Estêvão das Galés l Igreja Nova l Cheleiros Enxara do Bispo Gradil Mafra Sobral da Abelheira Santo Isidoro Carvoeira Ericeira
This itinerary invites you to discover the most authentic and natural side of Mafra, through a journey through rural landscapes, protected areas, biodiversity, outdoor activities and experiences linked to local products. Over four days, visitors will travel through mountains, valleys, trails and beaches, getting to know a territory where nature and tradition remain deeply intertwined.
Day 1: Santo Estêvão das Galés l Igreja Nova l Cheleiros
Morning: The morning begins at a local equestrian center , where visitors are invited to experience contact with nature through horseback riding. The experience is complemented by a tasting of Trouxas da Malveira , an emblematic sweet of the region.
Afternoon: During the afternoon, the itinerary takes us to Penedo de Lexim , a volcanic formation resulting from ancient eruptive activity, notable for its imposing presence and scientific and scenic value. The day ends at a local farm , where visitors can learn about wine production linked to the territory and the appreciation of local grape varieties. The visit includes a wine tasting, celebrating the aromas and flavors of Mafra.
Day 2: Bishop's Enxara l Gradil l Mafra
Morning: The morning begins at the Serra do Socorro viewpoint , one of the most striking panoramic viewpoints in the region. This is followed by a visit to the Iberian Wolf Recovery Center , a space dedicated to the protection and conservation of this emblematic species of Portuguese fauna. Visitors learn about the behavior, history, and conservation challenges of the Iberian wolf.
Afternoon: The afternoon is dedicated to the Tapada Nacional de Mafra , a former royal hunting ground created in the 18th century and currently one of the most important natural spaces in the municipality. Among forests, waterways and diverse habitats, it is possible to observe species such as deer, fallow deer and wild boar, while exploring the ecological and historical richness of this unique territory.
Day 3: Sobral da Abelheira l Santo Isidoro
Morning: The morning begins at the local farm , a space dedicated to agricultural production and the enhancement of local natural resources. The visit allows visitors to learn about the cycles of fruit production, agricultural practices, and the importance of the relationship between the land and the products that reach our table.
Afternoon: During the afternoon, the itinerary continues along a coastal walking route via the Banco do Cavalinho Beach Trail . This path combines coastal landscapes, cliffs, and ocean views, revealing the natural beauty of Mafra's coastline.
Day 4: Carvoeira l Ericeira
Morning: The final day begins with a birdwatching experience in Nossa Senhora do Ó and Vale do Lizandro , areas of great ecological interest due to the diversity of habitats found there. Among waterways, agricultural fields, and natural areas, visitors can discover different bird species and understand the importance of these ecosystems. The tour is complemented by a tasting of Pão do Ó , an emblematic sweet bread of the region.
Afternoon: The experience concludes in Ribeira d'Ilhas , a beach internationally renowned for its connection to surfing and the quality of its waves. Located within the Ericeira World Surfing Reserve, this stop allows you to experience the Atlantic in an active way, through a surf lesson or Stand Up Paddle adapted to different experience levels .

To participate in this itinerary, you must:
Feel comfortable with several days of visits and an itinerary that alternates between bus journeys and short walks in the historical centers of the places visited.
To be able to keep up at a moderate walking pace on sometimes uneven ground and occasional stairs.
Being able to follow a moderate-paced program, which may involve getting up early for several days and only arriving at the hotel at the end of the day to have dinner and rest.
Feel comfortable following a guide and respecting all instructions given.
Tolerate some temperature changes and unstable weather.
