This itinerary invites you to discover Mafra through its landscapes, historic villages, cultural heritage, and living traditions. Day 1: Cheleiros l Aldeia da Mata Pequena l Mafra
Morning: The journey begins in Cheleiros , a historic village marked by traditional architecture, ancient street layouts, and a strong connection to the surrounding rural landscape. Next is Aldeia da Mata Pequena , a restored village that preserves the memory of ancient agricultural communities, inviting a journey through time via its stone houses, courtyards, and traditional ways of life.
Afternoon: The journey continues with the discovery of ceramic tradition through the Mafra Clay Interpretation Centre , a space dedicated to valuing clay and the artisanal techniques that have marked the region. Day 2: Mafra
Morning: The morning is dedicated to the Quinta da Raposa Cultural Complex , where you will find interpretation and knowledge spaces related to the territory, namely the Mafra Village Interpretation Centre and the Torres Lines Interpretation Centre . This is followed by a visit to the Church of Santo André , a medieval religious heritage site, showcasing the historical architecture of Mafra.
Afternoon: The itinerary continues with the Palace of the Marquises , a testament to the presence of the local nobility and the aristocratic history of the region. The day ends with free time in the town of Mafra , allowing you to explore the streets, traditional shops, gastronomy, and the unique atmosphere of this historic center.
Day 3: Mafra
Morning: The morning is dedicated to the National Palace of Mafra , a monument classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. At the Beatriz Costa Popular Museum , the memory of the actress and Portuguese popular culture takes center stage. This is followed by a tasting of the traditional Trouxas da Malveira , an emblematic sweet of the region.
Afternoon: The afternoon takes us to Charneca , known for its connection to the imagery of the "Village of White Clothes" and local rural traditions. The route ends at the Cabeço do Milharado Mills , where the memory of traditional milling and the importance of wind and agriculture in the lives of the communities are preserved.
Day 5: Gradil l Santo Isidoro l Sobreiro
Morning: The morning begins with a visit to the Church of São Silvestre do Gradil , an example of the religious heritage of the villages in the municipality. At a local farm , visitors are invited to explore the wine-growing landscape through a walk through the vineyard, ending with a wine tasting that celebrates local flavors and production.
Afternoon: The afternoon reveals Mafra's connection to arts and crafts traditions. At a local historic farm , discover the rurality and agricultural heritage of the region. At the José Franco Village Museum , a recreation of a traditional Portuguese village brings ancient crafts to life, complemented by a bread-making or pottery workshop.
Day 6: Ericeira
Morning: The last day is dedicated to Ericeira , a fishing village with a unique identity and renowned for its connection to the ocean. The itinerary includes the Church of Mercy and the Chapel of Our Lady of Good Voyage , spaces linked to religious history and the protection of sailors.
