The Path of Jacinto is a cultural and literary route through the landscapes that inspired Eça de Queirós. Starting with a walk along the “Caminho de Jacinto” from the Aregos Station to the Casa de Tormes, the itinerary unveils the landscapes immortalized in the novel A Cidade e as Serras. A guided tour of the Eça de Queirós Foundation offers an immersive experience into the life and works of the author. The journey includes a panoramic tour of the charming region of Santa Cruz do Douro, followed by a visit to the Quinta de Covela, where participants enjoy a wine tasting and a gastronomic experience. The tour will be enhanced with moments of reading and discussion of excerpts from Eça’s works, deepening the connection between the texts and the Douro River.
PROGRAM
Day 1: Aregos | Tormes
Morning: Travel from the departure location to the Douro Region. Arrival at Aregos, the station where the protagonists Jacinto and José Fernandes arrive after their train journey from Paris. Lunch at a local restaurant.
Afternoon: Walk the Jacinto Path from Aregos Station to Casa de Tormes, a 3km walk where we will pass by the estates and manor houses mentioned by Eça de Queiroz in A Cidade e as Serras. Guided visit by a guide from the Eça de Queiroz Foundation to the House and its collection, garden, and part of the estate.
Evening: Dinner at a local restaurant. Overnight at a hotel.
