Holy Week in Castile
Itinerary: Valladolid | Zamora | Toro | Tordesillas | Ávila | Medina del Campo
This itinerary offers a unique experience that combines the rich cultural heritage of Castilla y León with the intense celebrations of Holy Week. Over four days, participants will explore historic cities such as Valladolid, Zamora, Toro, Tordesillas, Ávila, and Medina del Campo, visiting medieval monuments, cathedrals, palaces, and emblematic sites of the region. The program includes highlights of the festivities, such as the Procession of the Rosary of Sorrow in Valladolid, the Procession of the Holy Sepulchre in Zamora, and wine tastings in Toro. This fusion of cultural visits and local experiences provides a memorable journey where history, tradition, and faith meet in a unique way.
PROGRAM
Day 1: Valladolid
Morning: Journey from the starting points to Valladolid (~7h). Lunch en route.
Afternoon: Initial stroll through Plaza Mayor , Church of San Pablo, a masterpiece of late Gothic architecture with its imposing sculpted facade and interior filled with sacred art, and the National Sculpture Museum , which displays many of the stations used in Holy Week processions.
There will be: Free time to watch one of the Holy Thursday processions in Valladolid, moments of great visual and emotional impact, combining art, faith and centuries-old tradition. Dinner and accommodation at the 4-star Hotel Imperial in the historic center of Valladolid.
Day 2: Zamora
Morning: Departure towards Zamora (~1h30). Visit to the Castle, to Romanesque cathedral , followed by a stroll along Francos Street with visits to the Romanesque churches of San Ildefonso and San Juan de Puerta Nueva , ending at the Troncoso viewpoint overlooking the Douro River. The tour concludes at Plaza Mayor , next to the old Town Hall. Lunch at a local restaurant.
Afternoon: Free time to enjoy the Holy Week atmosphere and watch the Good Friday procession in Zamora.
It will be: Return to Valladolid. Dinner and accommodation at the Hotel Imperial 4* in Valladolid.
Day 3: Toro | Tordesillas
Morning: Departure for Toro (~1 hour), a historic city located on the Duero River, known for its medieval heritage and the vineyards that produce the famous Toro wine. Visit to the Castle , Basilica of Santa María , and historic center. Lunch at a local restaurant.
Afternoon: Departure for Tordesillas (~30 min), a town known for its historical role in the signing of the Treaty of Tordesillas (1494) and for its royal and religious heritage. Discovery of the Royal Palace of Tordesillas , the historical center , including churches and squares.
It will be: Return to Valladolid. Dinner and accommodation at the Hotel Imperial 4* in Valladolid.
Day 4: Ávila
Morning: Departure for Ávila (~2h), birthplace of Saint Teresa of Jesus. Visit to the Cathedral of Ávila , Convent of Saint Teresa , Basilica of San Vicente and walk along the city walls. Lunch.
Afternoon: Free time to watch the Easter Sunday processions , which fill the city with color, music, and joy. Coffee break at the outdoor cafes in the historic center.
It will be: Return to Valladolid. Dinner and accommodation at the Hotel Imperial 4* in Valladolid.
Day 5: Medina del Campo
Morning: Departure from Valladolid towards Medina del Campo (~1h). Visit to the Castle of La Mota, one of the most impressive fortresses in Castile, and a stroll through the historic center, highlighting the Plaza Mayor and the Royal Testamentary Palace (where Queen Isabella I of Castile died).
Afternoon: Return to the places of origin (~5h). End of the trip.

To participate in this itinerary, you must:
Feel comfortable with several days of visits and an itinerary that alternates between bus journeys and short walks in the historical centers of the places visited.
To be able to keep up with a group at an average walking pace on sometimes uneven terrain and occasional stairs.
Being able to follow a moderate-paced program, which may involve getting up early for several days and only arriving at the hotel at the end of the day to have dinner and rest.
Feel comfortable following a guide and respecting all instructions given.
Tolerate some temperature changes and unstable weather.
ACCOMMODATION:
Accommodation is planned at the Hotel Imperial Valladolid 4* or similar.
If, for reasons beyond our control, accommodation is not possible at the indicated hotels, the alternative accommodation will always be of a similar category, although the services offered by each hotel may vary.
