The adventure begins in Castelo de Vide, with its castle, Jewish quarter, and enchanting fountains. Next, Portalegre unveils its historical and architectural heritage, highlighted by its imposing Cathedral and Episcopal Palace.
At the top of the mountain, Marvão offers unforgettable panoramic views and a medieval castle that seems frozen in time. The journey concludes in Alegrete, a picturesque village that combines history and tranquility, surrounded by the natural beauty of the Serra.
PROGRAM:
Day 1: Castelo de Vide | Marvão
Morning: Travel from the departure locations to Castelo de Vide. Lunch at a local restaurant.
Afternoon: Explore Castelo de Vide, a charming village filled with medieval and Renaissance architecture. Visit the Castle and stroll through the narrow streets of the Jewish Quarter, home to one of Portugal’s best-preserved medieval synagogues.
On the way to Marvão, pass through part of the Serra de São Mamede Natural Park, a region of great biodiversity and stunning landscapes. Discover the village of Marvão, perched atop a rocky escarpment, offering breathtaking views over the Serra de São Mamede. Visit the Castle and the Church of Santa Maria.
Evening: Dinner and accommodation at Hotel José Régio 4* or similar.
Day 2: Portalegre | Alegrete
Morning: Discover Portalegre with a visit to the Episcopal Palace, a grand building reflecting the city’s religious significance over the centuries. Continue to the Portalegre Cathedral, featuring an impressive interior filled with sacred art.
Enjoy a guided tour of the Portalegre Tapestry Museum, where you will learn about the traditional techniques that have made this art form world-renowned. Stroll through the historic center of Portalegre. Lunch at a local restaurant.
Afternoon: Continue the visit through the quiet streets of Alegrete, where traditional houses and the simplicity of local life create an atmosphere of peace and authenticity.
