This tour through the Guadiana Valley unveils the charming towns of Serpa, Mértola, Alcoutim, Odeleite, and Castro Marim, offering a journey through the history and landscapes of southeastern Portugal, with a perfect blend of culture and nature. With guided tours led by local experts, participants will have the opportunity to explore the architectural and cultural heritage of these historic towns, such as the Serpa Castle and the medieval village of Mértola. The highlight is a full-day cruise along the Guadiana River, with a stop for a delicious lunch in Foz de Odeleite, providing a unique experience on the peaceful waters that divide Portugal and Spain.

PROGRAM


Day 1: Serpa | Mértola

Morning: Departure from the starting point. Lunch at a local restaurant.

Afternoon: Walking tour through the narrow and peaceful streets of Serpa, with its whitewashed houses. Visit to the Castle, Aqueduct, Walls, and Ethnographic Center. Continue to Mértola, a town overlooking the Guadiana Natural Park. In Mértola, explore the rich historical heritage of the city, including the Castle, Alcáçova, Main Church (Former Moorish Mosque), Clock Tower, Roman House, and Paleo-Christian Basilica.

Evening: Dinner and overnight at the hotel.



Day 2: Alcoutim | Castro Marim

Morning: Visit to Alcoutim, a town located on the banks of the Guadiana River, which forms the border between Portugal and Spain. Alcoutim dates back to Roman times, evident in its narrow streets, churches, and ancient buildings. The medieval castle is one of the city's main attractions, along with the Municipal Museum, which houses a collection of historical and archaeological artifacts from the region. Lunch at a local restaurant.

Afternoon: Continue to Castro Marim for a pleasant stroll through the historic center, including visits to the Castle, São Sebastião Fort, and Main Church.

Evening: Dinner and overnight at the hotel.



Day 3: Cruise on the Guadiana River

Morning: Trip to Vila Real de Santo António for embarkation. Boat ride on the Guadiana River between Portugal and Spain, heading upstream from Vila Real de Santo António, to appreciate the natural beauty of the Guadiana and its riverside villages. Disembark at the village of Foz de Odeleite for a walking tour. Arrive at the beautiful Quinta do Rio, with views over the River and village. After a refreshing swim, enjoy a delicious barbecue accompanied by regional wine and live music.

Afternoon: Return to the starting point.
