The Portuguese Writers' Literary Route invites you on an inspiring journey through the places that marked the lives and works of great Portuguese writers. Along the way, stunning landscapes intertwine with cultural heritage, offering an immersion into the influences that shaped names like Camilo Castelo Branco, Miguel Torga, Eça de Queiroz, and Agustina Bessa-Luís. From picturesque villages to historic cities, this experience proposes a profound reflection on the relationship between territory and literary creation, celebrating literary creation in Portugal.
PROGRAM:
Day 1: Coimbra
Morning: Journey to Coimbra. Visit to Quinta das Lágrimas, the legendary setting of the tragic love story of King Pedro and Inês de Castro. Lunch in the refectory of the Major Seminary, where art and spirituality meet.
Afternoon: Full tour of the University of Coimbra including the Joanine Library, the Royal Palace building and the Chapel of St. Michael. Descent from Quebra-Costas, with a guided tour of the Old Cathedral .
The package includes: Dinner and accommodation at the 4-star Hotel Palácio São Silvestre in Coimbra.
Day 2: Sabrosa | Santa Cruz do Douro
Morning: In Sabrosa and S. Martinho da Anta , guided tour of the Miguel Torga House and Space, where you can understand the connection between the author and his land — a constant theme in his work, marked by rurality and human dignity. Lunch in Peso da Régua, at the O Maleiro restaurant.
Afternoon: Departure for Santa Cruz do Douro. Visit to the Eça de Queiroz Foundation , with a guided tour of Casa de Tormes , the writer's former residence, to learn about his life and work. The tour allows you to understand his life, his thought, and how the Douro inspired his aesthetic.
The package includes: Dinner and accommodation at the 4-star Hotel Miracorgo in Vila Real.
Day 3: Amarante | S. Miguel de Seide
Morning: Literary tour of the city of Amarante, exploring the places that inspired writers such as Teixeira de Pascoaes, a symbolist poet and central figure of Saudosismo, and Agustina Bessa-Luís, whose works portray Northern Portugal with depth and realism. Guided tour of the Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso Museum. Lunch at the Quinta da Lama restaurant in Amarante.
Afternoon: In São Miguel de Seide, guided tour of the Camilo Castelo Branco House-Museum, where the writer spent the last years of his life. Guided tour of the Cupertino de Miranda Foundation dedicated to the surrealist artists Mário Cesariny , Cruzeiro Seixas and Julio Pereira.
It will include: Dinner and accommodation at the 4-star Hotel Santana in Vila do Conde.
Day 4: Vila do Conde
Morning: In Vila do Conde , a literary tour of the historic center, visiting places related to the lives of writers who passed through here. Guided tour of the José Régio House . Groups alternate between visiting the José Régio House and the 16th-century ship replica . Free time to enjoy the city's maritime atmosphere. Lunch at a local restaurant.
Afternoon: Return to the places of origin.

Seats on the bus are pre-assigned based on the order of boarding and the seniority of the sign.

To participate in this itinerary, you must:
Feel comfortable with several days of visits and an itinerary that alternates between bus journeys and short walks in the historical centers of the places visited.
To be able to keep up with a group at an average walking pace on sometimes uneven terrain and occasional stairs.
Being able to follow a moderate-paced program, which may involve getting up early for several days and only arriving at the hotel at the end of the day to have dinner and rest.
Feel comfortable following a guide and respecting all instructions given.
Tolerate some temperature changes and unstable weather.
ACCOMMODATION:
Accommodation is planned at Palácio São Silvestre*, Hotel Miracorgo 4* , Hotel Santana 4* or similar.
If, for reasons beyond our control, accommodation is not possible at the indicated hotels, the alternative accommodation will always be of a similar category, although the services offered by each hotel may vary.
