Itinerary: Aveiro | Ria | Costa Nova | Ílhavo

The 3-day Ria de Aveiro itinerary focuses on exploring the lesser-known and less-explored side of Aveiro, immersing yourself in the historical and cultural heritage that defines the city and its surroundings. Beyond the historic center and canals, the adventure includes visits to the salt pans, where you'll discover the ancient art of salt extraction, and the tranquility of the São Jacinto Dunes, a nature reserve of unique beauty. The Ria de Aveiro, with its fascinating ecosystems and landscapes, invites a deeper look at the natural and cultural richness of this authentic region.

PROGRAM:

Day 1: Aveiro

Morning: Journey from the starting points. Walking tour through the seaside neighborhood , including the Art Nouveau Museum and Rossio Garden. Lunch at a local restaurant.

Afternoon: 60-minute Moliceiro boat trip to navigate the 4 canals of Aveiro. Guided tour of the Aveiro Salt Pans and the Troncalhada Marine Ecomuseum to learn more about the ancestral practices of salt production and transportation.

It will include: Dinner and hotel accommodation.

Day 2: Aveiro

Morning: Discover the cultural heritage of the city of Aveiro with a specialized local guide on a route that includes Praça da República, murals, Igreja da Misericórdia de Aveiro, Igreja Carmelita, Museu de Aveiro, and Sé de Aveiro . Lunch at a local restaurant.

Afternoon: Visit to the São Jacinto Dunes Nature Reserve , one of the most beautiful and least explored nature reserves in Portugal. Walking tour along the stunning Aveiro Lagoon walkways (approximately 5km - optional activity).

It will include: Dinner and hotel accommodation.

Day 3: Costa Nova | Ílhavo

Morning: The adventure continues to Barra Beach or Costa Nova Beach. We will visit the Barra Lighthouse, the tallest in Portugal, and be enchanted by the cheerful colors of the Costa Nova beach huts, so photogenic they are known worldwide. Visit to the Ílhavo Maritime Museum , the Cod Aquarium , and the Santo André Museum Ship in the Oudinot Garden. Lunch at a local restaurant.

Afternoon: Return to the places of origin.

Seats on the bus are pre-allocated in order of where you get on the bus and date of deposit payment.

RYTHM: Medium

To take part in this route, you should:

Feel comfortable with several days of visits and an itinerary that alternates bus journeys and short walks in the places visited.
Be able to accompany a group at an average walking pace on sometimes uneven ground and with occasional stairs.
Being able to follow a medium-paced programme, which may involve getting up early on several days and only arriving at the hotel at the end of the day for dinner and a rest.
Feel comfortable accompanying a guide and respect all the instructions given.
Tolerate some temperature changes and unstable weather.
