Eça's Douro
Itinerary: Aregos | Tormes | Santa Cruz do Douro | Peso da Régua
The "Eça's Douro" itinerary is a cultural and literary journey through the landscapes that inspired the celebrated Portuguese writer. Beginning with a walk along the "Jacinto's Path," from Aregos Station to Casa de Tormes, the itinerary reveals landscapes immortalized in the work "The City and the Mountains." A guided tour of the Eça de Queiroz Foundation offers an immersion into the author's life and work. The itinerary includes a panoramic drive through the enchanting region of Santa Cruz do Douro and Baião and a visit to Quinta de Covela, where participants enjoy a wine tasting and a gastronomic experience, interspersed with readings and discussions of excerpts from Eça's works, enriching the connection between the texts and the Douro River.
Day 1: Aregos | Tormes
Arrival in Aregos, the destination station for the protagonists Jacinto and José Fernandes on their train journey from Paris. Lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, a walk along the Jacinto Trail from Aregos Station to Casa de Tormes, a route of approximately 3km where we will see the farms and manor houses mentioned by Eça de Queiroz in "The City and the Mountains". Guided tour by a guide from the Eça de Queiroz Foundation, of the House and its collection, garden and part of the Quinta. Literary dinner themed around Queiroz at the Eça de Queiroz Foundation.
Day 2: Santa Cruz do Douro
Visit to the Santa Cruz do Douro region, the Vinho Verde region, where we will visit Casa do Lavrador to learn about the context of a farming family from the 19th and early 20th centuries, the historical and social context of the work "A Cidade e as Serras" (The City and the Mountains). We will then continue to the unique Quinta de Covela, birthplace of the iconic Avesso grape variety, where we will enjoy a wine tasting and gastronomic experience, as well as a tour of the Quinta.
Day 3: Weight of the Ruler
Scenic drive to Peso da Régua with the idyllic scenery of the Douro River as your companion and views of the magnificent wine estates. 1-hour cruise departing from Peso da Régua.

To take part in this route, you should:
Feel comfortable with several days of visits and an itinerary that alternates bus journeys and short walks in the places visited.
Be able to accompany a group at an average walking pace on sometimes uneven ground and with occasional stairs.
Being able to follow a medium-paced programme, which may involve getting up early on several days and only arriving at the hotel at the end of the day for dinner and a rest.
Feel comfortable accompanying a guide and respect all the instructions given.
Tolerate some temperature changes and unstable weather.
